Antifog is a relative term when it comes to safety glasses. A lot of safety eyewear claims to be antifog, but once the weather warms up, and you start sweating, the lenses steam up like a shower door. And let’s face it, you don’t want to be handling heavy equipment or sharp tools when you’re flying blind. Safety glasses are meant to protect your eyes, not blind you like Luke Skywalker wearing the blast shield (Luke had the benefit of The Force…unfortunately, you don’t).

Edge Dakura

The Edge Dakura with Vapor Shield antifog coating. See, the lenses are clear.

But we’ve found true, actual, legit antifog safety glasses. We’re not kidding. The new Dakura Vapor Shield safety glasses by Edge Safety Eyewear are impervious to fog. The glasses are treated with a military grade anti-fog coating that makes nasty water vapor disappear. If it works for the military, it will work for you. Expect clear vision when wearing these bad boys, which retail for less than 20 bucks.

We added Edge Safety Eyewear to our line of safety glasses a few months ago. We like them largely because they’re well made and they’re cool. (Isn’t style one of the most important options when choosing protective safety glasses?) But they also feature injection-molded polycarbonate lenses that have outstanding optics. Edge safety glasses have protective lenses that exceed the ANSI standard for definition clarity. And Edge glasses are made from Grilamid TR90, which despite sounding like a rare isotope found only in the Swiss Alps, is actually an extremely durable material that’s also very flexible.

So, the bottom line is that Edge makes some cool stuff. And if you want that nasty little problem of eyeglass fogging to go away, give the Dakura Vapor Shield a try (or don’t exert yourself much on the job site).
