The guys from National Marker stopped in today to show us a new type of sign they have. It’s called the NMC Tuff Guard, and it’s pretty incredible. I mean, this is one tough sign! For the front, they take a piece of transparent .125”-thick non-glare acrylic, and they reverse-print the sign’s message on the inside surface with UV fade-resistant ink so it can be read through the transparent acrylic. Then they add a protective backing made of opaque white high-strength vinyl to seal it all up.
The result is a sign that can stand up to just about anything the world can throw at it. It’s so durable that National Marker will guarantee it for 20 years! It will withstand temperatures as high as 176°F and as low as -40°F. Exposure to continuous direct sunlight, extreme cold and sudden changes in temperature won’t faze it, and it’s impervious to chemicals and corrosives. For mounting, it has mounting holes at all four corners, or you can install it with optional adhesive mounting strips. The guys did say that if you plan to put up a Tuff Guard sign in an especially harsh environment, you should mount it with stainless steel hardware to prevent rusting and staining.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive, temporary sign, an NMC Tuff Guard sign might not be for you. Like everything that’s high in quality, it costs a little more than the “cheap stuff”. But if you’re in this for the long haul and you want to put up a sign, indoors or outdoors, that will last and do its job for 20 years, then this is the sign for you!
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but I like the idea of being able to put up a sign and then not have to worry about it fading, or peeling, or cracking, or degrading in any way. To me, it’s worth a little extra cost on the front end to know that I will never have to replace that sign again. In fact, I’ll never have to even think about that sign again. It’s a done deal. Problem solved. I’ve got enough to worry about without having to worry if my signage is faded or broken. So the new NMC Tuff Guard Signs from National Marker are just the signs for me!
